Betties Bay Penguins

Betties Bay Penguins
There are only two places in the world where African Penguins, nest and roost on the mainland. The well known beach of Boulders in Simons Town, and this colony in Betties Bay. This colony is less of a tourist hub than the Boulders Beach, and is well worth a visit if in the area. Although the main breeding region is cordoned off (since the late 80’s when a wild Leopard almost wiped them out) it still provides ample close encounters with the entertaining birds in their habitats. Dassies are often spotted on the walk way as well, as well as a variety of other sea birds.

The penguins often walk underneath the walk way that you will walk on.

This area is a safe area, with spectacular mountains coming down to the sea, many beautiful beaches, and has a laid back, holiday atmosphere. Although there are no restaurants/facilities near the penguins, there are many coffee shops and restaurants in the village.

A small entrance fee is charged at the beginning of the walk way
