Lighthouse Walk

Lighthouse Walk
The Light house walk starts just past the Hangklip hotel, and winds around through and along some of the wildest beaches close to Cape Town. Its an entirely safe are, that has the light house in the centre of its walk. The sea stretches to the North,West and South as you are on a Peninsula.

The walk is flat and can be done in about an hour, following the coast around. Keeping to the coast is the most attractive option as its free of litter. There is no official path but the local paths created by people suffice and make it a very easy to do walk. Stop at the middle beach to enjoy one of the most isolated beaches in the country

The lighthouse is unmanned, so this area is remote and beautiful. Look out for OysterCatchers, one of our rare endangered species in South Africa. Their black bodies and long orange bills make them instantly recognisable. They use their long bills to open muscles found on the rocks. They are endangered because their habitat is threatened and normally only have one chick a season. Being very vocal you cannot miss them, as their warning cries will alert you to their presence.

Look out for Otters as this area has a reasonable population. A host of Comorants and Terns also roost in this area making for good bird watching.
